I was newly married and we had just settled into our first home. One day a work colleague came in asking if anyone would be interested in adopting a 1 year old golden retriever who could no longer live with her family. My husband, Ken, had always had dogs in his family when growing up, so he was very excited about the opportunity to get a dog of our own. It was love at first sight - Zoe was such a beautiful dog - we couldn't wait to bring her home. She was playful, energetic (but gentle) and loved to curl up in front of the fireplace on a winters night. She was such a wonderful companion. Zoe was first and then came along our four beautiful children. Zoe adapted to the ever growing family and lapped-up all the attention, with great tolerance, to all that the children would give her. Zoe was a big part of our family, and when she passed after at an incredible 16 years together, it was devastating. Although we now have three other dogs in our home, Zoe is never forgotten and will always be a part of our family. Pets, all creatures great and small, become part of our lives and family, they are truly missed when gone, as they are and will be forever in our hearts.
